Amelia Aftercare Centre (Amelia Nasorgsentrum) was founded on 11 May 1976 with a core purpose to provide a safe, supportive home and work environment for adults with intellectual disabilities.
The Centre began humbly — operating out of an old farmhouse in the Vyfhoek area. It was named after Amelia van Wyk, one of the Centre’s very first residents, whose legacy still lives on in the heart of our community.
Our Growth
In 1991, the Centre acquired new property in Baillie Park, and the first two chalets were built to accommodate a growing number of residents — just 16 at the time. By the end of 1992, Amelia had expanded to include:
- Eight residential chalets(4 for men, 4 for women, each housing approx. 15 residents)
- A fully equipped kitchen
- A laundromat
- A medical clinic
- Multiple workshops
- An administration building
On 17 April 2000, Amelia Care Centre was officially registered as a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO).
Our buildings and grounds are designed to promote not only comfort and safety, but also meaningful development. Here, residents enjoy a balance of work, relaxation, and social interaction — all contributing to an improved quality of life.
